Project Description
Jack, the leader of a gang of precocious outcasts, is woken up after a night of
partying by a neighbour suddenly blasting music at 6 in the morning. Whether he’s
doing it out of resentment or innocent insensibility matters little to Jack; his fight is
with his followers, whom he must prevent from knocking on the neighbour’s door
or, what’s worse, calling the police on him. We gradually learn the reasons behind
this irrational resistance toward engaging with the neighbour, as well as the
motives for the loud music.
The film is designed to be ONE SHOT and LOUD, with diegetic music playing
continuously in the background.
Character Breakdowns
Looking for Montreal locals who are native English speakers. Ideal candidates
have theatre experience and/or previous experience with long takes.
JACK: Male/18-25/Caucasian
The head of the pack. He exudes the might, discipline, and coolheaded rationality
of a great leader, but opts for playfulness as his way of securing the approval of his
subordinates. While he is not prone to outbursts, he constantly teeters on the edge
of violence, and he doesn’t shy away from a brutal punishment, if he deems it
warranted.
ROGER: Male/18-25/Open ethnicity
The prime example of a loose cannon. He is at his best when playing the brawn to
Jack’s brains; when he’s at his worst, he turns into a rowdy, cackling nuisance that
can’t be reasoned with. Even though he defers to Jack’s superiority, he is
unfamiliar with the concept of compromise: every issue is a battlefield for him.
SAMANTHA: Female/18-25/Open ethnicity
An anxious mother whose one-year-old son is the only thing keeping her sane and
grounded in an inhospitable home. She is incapable of anger or inciting fear, but is
willing to stand up to Jack and threaten his dominion if she believes it will
guarantee her and her son’s survival.
ERICA: Female/18-25/Open ethnicity
The only one of Jack’s subordinates who isn’t afraid of him. Rather, she is kept in
line by a keen sense of responsibility and compassion. She is the most competent
and reliable member of the pack, and she’s often called upon to settle a debate or
find middle ground.
SAL: Male/18-25/Open ethnicity
The obedient child among adults. A long history of being Jack’s minion has
rendered him weak and jittery: a real coward. He rarely makes his presence known,
but he is quick to offer Jack a helping hand in the hopes he will notice and accept
him as one of his own.
